The position battle at wide receiver is one of the most competitive for the Eagles, but two players have stood out to Doug Pederson during camp: Carlton Agudosi and Marken Michel.

In what was the longest practice so far of the summer, jam-packed with news of a Miles Sanders injury to the return of Corey Clement, Pederson took the time to discuss a number of receivers competing for one (or two) spots on the depth chart. However, Agudosi and Michel were the lone receivers to be voluntarily pointed to for their quality of play.

“I think Agudosi has shown up a bit here,” Pederson said. “From a receiver standpoint, Marken Michel is another one. I mean, these guys have really busted their tail to help us and help themselves. Obviously, making a decision is tough.”

This hasn’t been the first time Agudosi and Michel have directly received praise from Pederson, either. Just a few days prior, the head coach made a point to say just how well they have performed this offseason.

The top half of the depth chart at wide receiver is set, with Alshon Jeffery, DeSean Jackson, Nelson Agholor and JJ Arcega-Whiteside virtual locks to make the team. However, on the back end, Mack Hollins, Greg Ward Jr, Braxton Miller, Shelton Gibson, Charles Robinson, along with Agudosi and Michel are all competing to make the team.

The Eagles signed Agudosi, who was with the Arizona Cardinals for training camp in 2018, to a futures contract back in January.

Throughout the course of the offseason, Agudosi has continued to open eyes on the team. At 6’7, Agudosi has the size that makes him unique compared to the other wide receivers.

Recently in training camp, Agudosi has dominated opposing cornerback’s thanks to that size and has shown he can be a legitimate receiving threat in the RedZone. Agudosi has yet to earn any first-team reps, but he is proving that he is worthy of being under legitimate consideration to make the teams final roster.

Similarly to Agudosi, Michel was also signed to a futures contract in January. Michel is the brother of Patriots running back Sony Michel.

This offseason, Michel caught immediate attention due to his impressive workouts. In one video, Michel was seen doing 45″ box jumps while holding a 10-pound medicine ball.

Michel developed an immediate connection with quarterback Carson Wentz during OTAs in June, and frequently became Wentz’s go-to target.

Michel has continued to play well in training camp, but his opportunities have lessened with Jackson, Jeffery and Agholor becoming daily participants, which wasn’t the case back in June.

With Hollins suffering yet another injury, the door has opened some more for players like Agudosi and Michel to make the Eagles roster. If the Eagles decide to keep six wide receivers and Hollins struggles in his recovery, there is a shot both Agudosi and Michel make the 53-man roster.
