9 months down, 3 to go.
2020 hasn’t been all that kind to any of us, the Sixers have been no exception.

2020 has been an absolute disaster for the 76ers organization and even with the team knocked out of the NBA Playoffs, it’s not really getting any better.

The Sixers came into the 2019-2020 season with extremely high expectations. James Ennis stated that the 76ers will “walk” to the finals in the Eastern Conference. Ennis, who was later traded to the Magic at the trade deadline, made this proclamation after a big offseason highlighted by the signings of Al Horford and Tobias Harris.

The Sixers were no longer a young team building for the future, they were supposed to have arrived.

After an underwhelming 43-30 record and a 6 seed finish in the Eastern Conference, if they were going to make it to the Eastern Conference Finals it seemed like they would be crawling, not walking like Ennis once guaranteed.

It turns out, they didn’t even crawl, they laid down. They got outcoached, outclassed, and outplayed by the better team.

The Celtics took 4 straight games against the Sixers and in turn, closed the book on the disastrous 2020 season for the 76ers.

After getting embarrassed by the Celtics, the Sixers had no choice but to let Brett Brown go. It was reported that there would be a shakeup in the front office as well, but still no sight of that two weeks later.

The pain isn’t over for Sixers fans just yet. Former Sixer, Jimmy Butler looks like the most dominant player in the NBA. He has led the Heat to a 3-0 series lead over the #1 seed Milwaukee Bucks and the Heat look all but destined for the Eastern Conference Finals, they are 7-0 in the playoffs thus far. The decision to keep Tobias Harris over Jimmy Butler may not be as vanilla as we once made it out to be, but it is still a massive mistake.

Not only are Butler and the Heat undefeated in the playoffs, but the man who was supposed to be a building block for the next 10 years in Joel Embiid, seemingly wants out of Philly!

Care to guess where it seems like he wants to go? The Heat, to be paired back up with Jimmy Butler.

It was no secret that Embiid wanted Butler to stay, the two were best friends when Butler was here and remain close friends. This is not the first time that the two have been active on social media.

A few months ago, Butler tried recruiting Embiid to Miami with this post.

Embiid has since changed his name to “Joel ‘Troel’ Embiid” and also followed his unhappy tweet with the following :

Still, doesn’t it make you wonder?

Embarrassment is an understatement and a word that I have likely used too much in this article, but I have thought long and hard to find words to describe this year for the Sixers. They are sitting at home watching the playoffs, the team has no coach, no plans in the front office, and could possibly have a larger issue with Joel Embiid on their hands.

For an organization that once looked so bright and promising now has nothing but clouds over it, it is no longer sunny in Philadelphia, it is dark.

I’m not sure that you could have scripted a worse calendar year for an organization.
We need some good news here in Philly.
