In honor of 2/22/2022, I created an Eagles starting roster of the best players to have the number 2 in their jersey number.

After running into some trouble, I also included the number zero (2022). As you will see, there are only four players on the list with a zero. I decided to allow the number zero when I was looking to fill the last few spots.

Offense

The Eagles offensive players who made the list created a solid team. The list is highlighted by “The Ultimate Weapon,” the Eagles all-time leading rusher, and the best center in the history of the world. I could only imagine what the read option would look like with Kelce at center and Cunningham and McCoy working out of the backfield.

QB: Randall Cunningham #12
RB: LeSean McCoy #25
WR: Mike Quick #82
WR: Tommy McDonald #25
TE: LJ Smith #82
O-Line: Halapoulivaati Vatai #72
O-Line: Jason Kelce #62
O-Line: Tra Thomas #72
O-Line: Al Wister #70
O-Line: Guy Morriss #50

Defense

My main struggle filling out the roster was with the defensive line. Since Reggie White had his #92 retired, there have been generations of Eagles players not able to wear that number. The strength of the secondary highlights this group. It would have been awesome to see Dawkins added to that 1992 defense; nevertheless, a group of Allen, Vincent, Dawkins, and Bradley would be dangerous.

I also have to point out the inclusion of Ryan Kerrigan. Although he had a truly invisible year for the Eagles, he is still a great player and has had a great career. Further, how little he was able to get his name on the stat sheet was almost impressive in its own way.

D-Line: Reggie White #92
D-Line: Cedric Thorton #72
D-Line: Corey Simon #90
D-Line: Ryan Kerrigan #90
LB: Najee Goode #52
LB: Tim Rossovich #82
LB: Wayne Robinson #52
CB: Eric Allen #21
CB: Troy Vincent #23
Safety: Brain Dawkins #20
Safety: Bill Bradley #28

Special Teams

David Akers might have been the most obvious pick for the whole team, right?  Actually, Reggie White probably takes that honor, but the greatest kicker in Eagles history was a no brainer. The punter position, however, is not filled by a punter, but by some guy named Randall Cunningham, who holds the Eagles franchise record for a punt of 91 yards.

Kicker: David Akers #2
Punter: Randall Cunningham #12
