It’s been reported that the Cowboys are going to release Amari Cooper. The Eagles need an upgrade at the receiving position, so should they consider signing the division rivals former receiver?

Cooper is just 27 years old and already has four 1000 yard seasons under his belt. Last year he hauled in 68 catches for 865 yards and 8 touchdowns. Some might consider this to be a down year for Cooper, but those stats are almost better than Watkins and Reagors stats combined (76 receptions, 946 yards, and 3 touchdowns.) He also put up those numbers in just 15 games, with other high end receivers sharing snaps and targets with him. He is an elite route runner who has the ability to make any catch, and these attributes would be great for him to teach to DeVonta Smith. Cooper on the other side would also help to take more focus off of Smith, which should help him to get open more often and hopefully get targeted more.

Eagles fans know that the last big name Cowboys free agent that came to the Eagles ended up not working out. Demarco Murray went from an 1800 yard season, earning offensive player of the year in his last season in Dallas, to getting 702 yards with the Eagles. Hopefully that same scenario wouldn’t happen to Amari Cooper if Howie were to sign him. Cooper could help make the Eagles passing attack make the jump from average to one of the better ones in the league. He would likely want a contract getting paid somewhere in the 15-20 million a year range, so even though he’s expensive, I think a two or three year deal could be great for the Eagles.

When the Cowboys release Amari Cooper, the Eagles should immediately take a shot at him.
