The 2022 Draft begins next Thursday, April 28th and concludes on April 30th.
The Philadelphia Eagles are currently set to draft in the following positions:
#15, #18, #51, #83, #101, #124, #154, #162, #166, #237
Whether or not you were a fan of Howie Roseman trading #16, #19 and #194 in exchange for #18, #101 and #237, as well as a 2023 first, and a 2024 second. Having more picks will be essential for the Eagles during the upcoming years.
With FIVE picks within the top 101. There’s bound to be more movement from Howie before those numbers will be called on Draft Day. With plenty of Free Agents still available and highly valued draft targets rumored to be gone by the time the Eagles get to the podium with the 15th overall pick. Howie could be looking to shake things up one more time.
So far during this Off-season, the Eagles have not addressed the secondary as much as fans would have hoped. Losing FS Rodney McLeod and CB Steven Nelson were big blows to that Defence. Rumors and nonsense about former Chief’s Safety Tyrann Mathieu potentially signing in Philadelphia, (I believe, but I’m expecting the usual ‘Philly tried but the player chose X’ excuse) could fill a major hole the Eagles still need to fill. If Mathieu chooses to go somewhere else, the Eagles might be in desperate need to move up in the hopes of drafting CB Sauce Gardner or Kyle Hamilton. Moving up within the top 10 could come costly. But with enough ammo, the Eagles could see themselves calling the Falcons or Panthers with a package potentially including #15 or #18 and one of four 2nd round picks in the next three years plus more day 3 picks.
Realistically I would seal an appropriate deal that does see the Eagles jumping within the top 10. Preferably a deal similar to Howie’s previous moves that have seen the Eagles coming away with extra picks. And the player they’re after.
Look. Sometimes the guy you want just isn’t available when your pick in the draft rolls around. We’ve all watched a player during fantasy drafts that gets snatched up just before it’s your turn. If the Eagles miss out on drafting THE guy, trading down to receive even more picks for the future could be another move that Howie Roseman seeks out.
Perhaps the Chiefs are after a Wide Receiver they think might be gone by the time #29 or #30 roll around? Tennessee could be in the same boat if they are in fact trying to move WR A.J. Brown? The Eagles could make some happy GM’s trading back #15 if the price is right. Titans GM Jon Robinson could be the right person to call if the Eagles want to add more picks to a trade that could see A.J. Brown as well as #26 coming in payment to Philly. There are plenty of players available that could fall to Philadelphia late in the first round. Andrew Booth or Jameson Williams would be game-changing players that Philadelphia could pursue.
The Eagles are in great position regardless of their moves. Great players will be available in the middle of the first round. We might not receive a top prospect like CB Derek Stingley Jr. or Kayvon Thibodeaux. But with names like Nakobe Dean & Jordan Davis projected to be with the 12-20 range could see impactful players being drafted through to the 2nd round.
One week until the draft starts. fasten your seatbelts everyone.
