Year Two

We are heading into year two of the Nick Sirianni era. The draft is right around the corner, and the Eagles hope to add some exciting talent that could impact the team. Last season the Birds finished in a Wild Card spot with a 9-8 record. Unfortunately, they fell to the Buccaneers in the wild card round of the playoffs, 31-15. The pressure will be on in year two and the Eagles need to make the playoffs to have a successful season.

To see what we should expect from Coach Sirianni, let’s look at the record of previous Eagles head coaches in their second year.

Andy Reid

Year One: 5-11, Finished 5th in the NFC East
Year Two: 11-5, Lost in the Divisional Round

Chip Kelly

Year One: 10-6, Lost in the WC Game
Year Two: 10-6, Finished 2nd in the NFC East, missed playoffs

Doug Pederson

Year One: 7-9, Lost in the Wild Card Game
Year Two: 13-3, Super Bowl Champions

Nick Sirianni

Year One: 9-8, Lost in the Wild Card Game
     Year Two: ?-?

Expectations

If Sirianni can continue on the track record set, he should improve in his second season. The expectations are on the team to build off of the first year. I believe Sirianni will improve in his second year, but I want to see the Eagles in the playoffs at the end of the day. The division is still flawed and hasn’t had a repeat winner, so it is there for the taking. There is still time to improve this team in the off-season, and we will see what the next few months will do for this team. In an ideal world, Sirianni follows in the footsteps of Doug Pederson, bringing another championship to the great city of Philadelphia. Hey, who thought Doug was going to win one? No, I don’t see the Eagles winning the Super Bowl next year. But hopefully, Sirianni can continue to build on a successful rookie season.
