The Eagles stole the show Thursday night during the draft, and that is all in thanks to Howie Roseman.  Howie Roseman has been under constant scrutiny during his tenure as the GM of the Philadelphia Eagles, but he nailed the first night of the draft.

The Eagles came away with National Champion and an athletic freak in Jordan Davis and then traded for a young Pro Bowl receiver in A.J. Brown just a handful of minutes later.  Just in one night Howie Roseman was able to shift the odds of the Eagles for next season.  Howie was able to add two impactful players in the first round while maintaining two firsts for next year.

After the Lions traded back up in the first round to select Jameson Williams at 12, the Eagles knew they needed to make a move for the player they wanted all along.  Howie jumped the Ravens at 14, who were reportedly very interested in Jordan Davis, by trading picks 15, 124, 162, and 166 to the Texans for pick 13.  When the move was made it was clear they had one player on their mind.

With Fletcher Cox on a one-year deal and Javon Hargrave entering his last year the Eagles knew they needed to add talent to the defensive tackle position.  They didn’t just add a talented player, they brought in a generational athlete.  Davis is 6’6, 340 pounds, and ran a 4.78 forty-yard dash at the combine.  People of that size are not supposed to move like that.  Davis will eat up blocks and make holes for linebackers and other pass rushers to get through.  He is a game-changer along the defensive line.  Howie stuck to his philosophy and will continue to build the team through the trenches.

The mood around the team was already high after the Eagles added one of the best defenders from the best team in college football, then Howie decided to shock the entire NFL.  Within minutes of the Jordan Davis pick, the Eagles traded for Pro Bowl receiver A.J. Brown from the Tennesse Titans for picks 18 and 101.  While it seemed like the Titans weren’t going to trade Brown Howie came in and shocked the league.  Howie then locked up Brown with a 4 year $100 million extension just minutes after the trade.  The Eagles got the impact receiver they’ve been coveting for quite some time.

The anticipation for this Eagles draft was already high, and Howie blew those expectations out of the water.  The pressure was on Howie to deliver in the first round of the draft, and he did big time.  It is time we start giving Howie Roseman some credit.  The position he has put this time in for the present and the future is nothing short of miraculous.
