OTA’s are over and the Eagles are done practicing until training camp starts on July 26. The Birds have a couple young players who were impressive last year, and some guys who were not starters, but are projected to have a bigger role this year. Let’s take a look at three players who could have a breakout year this year.

Firstly, Marcus Epps. Epps is projected to be the starting safety along side Anthony Harris. Epps is only 26, and he is coming off a year with 62 tackles and 1 interception. He has been a consistent backup at safety for the past two years with the Eagles. With Rodney McLeod moving on and signing with the colts, the Eagles are looking for someone to fill the hole at safety, and the Eagles coaching staff seems very high on Marcus Epps.

Secondly we have Kenneth Gainwell. The second year running back showed flashes of really good play last year. He is coming off a year with 544 total yards, 5 rushing touchdowns, and 1 receiving touchdown. With Miles Sanders starting the season fully healthy, Gainwell will most likely play in short down situations, or passing downs because of his ability as a pass catching running back. He showed he is a physical downhill runner, and that he can be relied on in many situations. The Eagles run first offense will help him to breakout this year, even if he is the number two back behind sanders.

Lastly we have Davion Taylor. The third year player from Colorado is only 23 years old, and his first two seasons were unfortunately full of injuries. Last year he played 9 games and had 38 tackles. He said earlier this week in a press conference that he was really starting to pick up the game at a faster speed, and he is more comfortable this offseason because it is his first time ever having the same defensive playbook two years in a row. With some other linebacker additions, he will be able to learn from them and hopefully have a big role in the defense.

The Eagles have plenty of young talent at every level, and quite a few players could breakout this season. Keep an eye on the three players mentioned above.
