The Philadelphia Union defeated the NY Red Bulls 2-0 on Saturday night. Although it was quite a sloppy 1st half for Philadelphia, they adjusted at halftime and managed to earn a victory. The Boys in Blue continue to make a case of why they are the best team in MLS.

All Hail Andre Blake:

Throughout the course of this season, the defense has been the most crucial part of the Union’s success.

The defensive unit has displayed an excellent job slowing down opponents attacks and shifting the momentum in their favor.

However, Andre Blake has been the backbone of this squad. The star Jamaican goalkeeper continues to be a leader and use his voice to bring his teammates together.

After all Blake has been with the Union since 2014, so he has earned the utmost respect in the club.

Against the NY Red Bulls on Saturday night, the Philadelphia Union won by a final score of 2-0.

To no surprise, Andre Blake recorded a clean sheet for the 13th time this season. This is a record for the Philadelphia Union, and Blake owned the previous top spot with 12 clean sheets in a season.

Now, it should not be a debate that Andre Blake wins the Goalkeeper of the Year award. His play has been stellar, and no other goalkeeper has played a significant role for their club like Blake.

The bigger question is will Blake be crowned the Most Valuable Player? His play speaks for itself as he has set franchise records left and right and has played a significant role for Philadelphia.

The award typically doesn’t favor a goalkeeper as the last time a keeper won was Tony Meola in 2000.

If we think about the word “Most Valuable Player” it should easily be given to Andre Blake due to his value for the Philadelphia Union.

The Final Stretch:

With only a few games remaining in the regular season, the Union must stay consistent all the way until the last match.

The Union may be slightly fatigued, but they still manage to outperform their opponents on a weekly basis.

Currently, Philadelphia is the best team in MLS and are in a great position to win the Supporters’ Shield. The satisfaction of winning the award is not enough for me as I would also love to see a championship parade on Broad Street.
