It’s Doug Pederson’s return to the city of Brotherly Love. And while Doug might expect a happy reunion, the Eagles need to come out of this weekend in the Win column.
The Eagles are the only undefeated team in the NFL after the Giants brought an abysmal performance to Monday Night Football, and the Dolphins Win streak ended Thursday Night. There’s many reasons the Eagles need this win most of all.
If the Eagles are able to win this weeks game. It will be the first time they’ve started a season 4-0 since 2004. If so, the Eagles will comfortably have another game in hand on the rest of the NFC East. While the 2-1 Cowboys play the 1-2 Commanders, and the 2-1 Giants play the 2-1 Bears.
Based on the division matchups this week. I’d assume the Cowboys will beat the Commanders with a strong defensive line performance similar to the Eagles.
While the Giants and Bears… Well, Daniel Jones has yet to throw for over 200 yards in a single game this season. While the Chicago Bears only have 297 passing yards in 3 games. Both of these 2-1 teams are looking a lot like the 3-0 Panthers from last season. (the Panthers finished the year 5-12)
Make a Statement
The Jags look a lot more competitive under Doug Pederson. Already starting the season 2-1, with impressive wins against the should-be contending Chargers (although dealing with a massive injury plague) and a shutout win against the Colts… who I’m not sure what to think of yet, considering they beat the Chiefs last week, but tied the Texans to start the year and got shut out against the Jags the following week.
Jacksonville is slowly creeping their way up the Power Rankings (#18 compared to Philly at #1 ) The Jags are looking like a front runner for the AFC South and could be competing for a high seed if they can keep this up. Being the Eagles first AFC matchup, coming out on top will solidify the Eagles as a serious threat to the rest of the league and provide an early point into the common opponent tiebreaker with the rest of the NFC East if the season comes down to the wire.
Coming Up, Expectations
A few weeks ago I projected the Eagles to have an 11-6 record. They managed to impress me and slaughtered the Vikings, which I had penciled in as their first loss.
Starting the season 4-0 would set the Eagles up for success down the road. Their following matchup against the Cardinals: who have looked lacklustre and all over the place without DeAndre Hopkins, might turn into a trap game for a 4-0 Eagles team that the league wasn’t prepared for. A struggling team against a powerhouse that isn’t slowing down? I’ve heard this one before
While the Week 6 game against the Cowboys will be the most important of the season. Dak Might be returning to the field as soon as this week, and with Cooper Rush doing a bare minimum job under center – What’s the point in rushing the injured Franchise QB in Jerry World? With 2 wins under his belt this season, Cooper Rush has done a remarkable job putting up minimal points in games his defence has shown up heavily in.
I’ll be cheering on the Eagles in Section 138 this weekend! Who else will be there to welcome Doug back to the Linc?
