The Eagles started off the season in the best possible way, starting off 8-0. They are on the quest for 9-0, hoping for a win over the Washington Commanders on Monday night. One of the biggest reasons for the Eagles success so far this year, is the QB play we have seen from Jalen Hurts. He has shown a huge level of improvement from last year to this year, and from what we’ve seen so far, I think it is safe to say he will be the guy moving forward.
At the end of last year, everyone talked about how we need to see a major improvement as a passer from Hurts if he is going to be considered a franchise QB. He finished last season with 3,144 yards, 16 passing touchdowns, 9 interceptions, 61.3 completion percentage, 10 rushing touchdowns, and 748 rushing yards. This year, he is on pace to finish the season with 4339 passing yards, 26 passing touchdowns, 4 interceptions, 68.2 completion percentage, 13 rushing touchdowns, and 692 rushing yards. These improvements cannot be ignored, and this proves he is able to take his game to a whole new level when he has the talent around him to succeed.
Jalen Hurts has been the Eagles starter for a little over a season and a half (26 games). Over the past 17 games with Hurts behind center, the Eagles have a 14-3 record, and they are averaging over 27 points per game, and over 375 yards per game. These numbers are elite for any offense. Once you consider that, for 9 out of the 17 games, he had Jalen Reagor as one of his main targets, then these numbers are super impressive.
Not only has Jalen Hurts shown massive improvements as a starting QB, he also captured the locker room with his strong leadership skills. Whether its Jason Kelce on the New Heights Podcast, or Coach Sirianni at press conferences, everyone always talks about how good of a leader Jalen is, and how everyone has bought into him.
Eagles fans should not need any more convincing. The level of improvement and determination we have seen from Hurts is outstanding. He has brought a new level to success to the Philadelphia Eagles. Jalen Hurts should be the guy moving forward.
