Apparently, Philadelphia is the city of Championships.
After the Phillies advanced to the World Series in October and the Eagles advanced to the Super Bowl on Sunday afternoon, it begs the question, can the Sixers continue the trend?
The Sixers have been the most popular pick in the city to advance to a Championship out of all the four major sports teams in recent years, but they have been unable to seal the deal in the postseason. The Sixers have failed year after year to win when it has mattered most, and have been unable to even make it to the Eastern Conference Finals. Despite all of their talent and MVP-caliber play from their Super Star big man the Sixers have struggled mightly as the weather begins to turn.
This is a new Sixers team however, they’re free of a putrid Ben Simmons situation and James Harden paired with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey have been playing out of their minds over the course of the last month and a half. Daryl Morey has brought in a new back bone to the roster and as the calendar flipped to 2023 and players began to get healthy, the team finally seems to be taking shape the way that it was intended to.
All of a sudden, the Sixers are competing for the top seed in the Eastern Conference even though no one really pegged them to be there. They continue to play sound basketball and beat some of the league’s heavy hitters like the top seeded Denver Nuggets on Saturday and the Brooklyn Nets just a couple of days before that.
Philadelphia has a certain magic behind it this year. Whether it be the Phillies getting in as last place Wild Card team or the Eagles going in as the best team in football. Once the city of Philadelphia gets fully behind their team, there is no telling what can happen.
