Well, it’s not the ending we wanted. I will say, however, Jalen Hurts and the offense went toe-to-toe with the best team in the NFL in the 2022-2023 season. The Eagles couldn’t get it done in the second half which ultimately led to their 38-35 loss. The offseason begins now, and the team has a lot to look at.

Here are the final three highs and three lows from Super Bowl LVII.

Jalen Hurts

If the Eagles win, Jalen Hurts is a shoe-in for Super Bowl MVP. He put up amazing numbers for having no Super Bowl experience. He went 27-for-38 for 304 yards and one passing touchdown. He also had 15 carries for 70 yards and three rushing touchdowns. Hurts put it all out on the field and deserved a win solely on that performance.

Big plays from the offense

Not only did the offense execute on 3rd and 4th downs, but Hurts lobbed it down the field often and made explosive plays. Great calls from the offense that read the Kansas City secondary often in the first half. It was a dominant performance by the Eagles offense that led to success early on. If given the opportunity, the Eagles would have had the opportunity to tie the game up.

Top 10 Draft pick

Not all hope is lost, Eagles fans. The Eagles still have two first round picks that I think they really should utilize for some of the issues they had this season – including a third wide receiver and punt returner. They also have a top 10 pick in the draft that could be utilized for a key player either from another team or in the draft for next season.

Defense gave up/no adjustments

The defense completely fell apart in the second half which tells me they didn’t make the necessary adjustments they needed to lock up the win. It’s disheartening to have to come back to the same defensive issue that we saw in Game 1 of the regular season and in the Super Bowl. To me, there’s a lot of questions about how the defensive issue will be addressed next season because inconsistency will kill the Eagles.

Slippery field

How does the NFL put two years and $800k in the turf just for it to be problematic? This wasn’t even just an issue for the Eagles. It was an issue for both teams that could have posed serious health issues. With Patrick Mahomes going down before the half after a tackle, it really showed that things could have gone from bad to worse for either team to suffer injuries. Thankfully, that was not the case.

Silly penalties

Coming into this game, the referees had a history with flags. We should have expected this game to be a penalty-filled game. That being said, the Eagles putting up silly penalties is something that shot themselves in the foot throughout the game. To have veterans with Super Bowl experience, like Ndamukong Suh, who had a penalty in the game is silly.

Eagles fans – it was a tough loss. We know the team would have had the opportunity to tie it up, but unfortunately that did not happen. The team has a bright future and it begins with Hurts’ talent, drive and motivation to get back to the historic season they had. Hold your head up. The offseason begins now. We will get back there.
