Joel Embiid is putting up video game like numbers.
Embiid has now scored 30+ points in ten consecutive games and is leading the league in scoring with almost a 34 points per game average. The current front runner to win the MVP has been exactly that thus far, an MVP.
What is so impressive about this recent run by Joel Embiid is that he is playing his best basketball when the games matter most. Not only are the playoffs coming up, but this is also the Sixers toughest part of their schedule and Embiid has not backed down. Since the All Star break, Embiid has failed to record 30+ points only twice.
Joel Embiid is the best player in the NBA right now.
Not only is Joel Embiid the MVP of his team and the league, there is no player putting up the type of numbers that Embiid is putting up on a night in and night out basis.
Nikola Jokic who is thought to be Embiid’s biggest competition for the MVP award is not nearly the defender or scorer that Embiid is. The Sixers superstar can be seen taking shots from all over the floor. If you leave him open from three point range he is knocking down his shots 35% of the time. If you let him shoot from midrange/ the elbow that percentage goes up to at least 99% it seems like.
Embiid is doing so much more than just driving and getting fouled, as some of his critics might say. He has taken his game to a whole other level this year and it has been so fun to watch.
None of this is to say that if Kevin Durant comes back and plays like Kevin Durant in the playoffs that he will not touch Embiid, but as of right now there is no one doing it the way that the Sixers big man is doing it.
Do not take watching Embiid for granted, it is a sight to see.
