After weeks of trade talks, the Arizona Cardinals finally parted ways with star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins as they released the former Pro Bowler. The connection was automatically then made to the Philadelphia Eagles for Hopkins. A wide receiver trio of DeVonta Smith, A.J. Brown, and Hopkins would certainly be the best in the league, but it seems unlikely Hopkins would sign with Philadelphia. If the Eagles are looking out on the market for another receiver target, there’s an intriguing name that they could look to acquire.

A name that has flown under the radar in the wide receiver market is Raiders receiver Hunter Renfrow. Renfrow, also a former Pro Bowler, has heard his name in the rumor mill this offseason. It was speculated that Renfrow could potentially be traded or released.

The Eagles aren’t in dire need of a receiver, but Renfrow would be an all-in type of move, especially if they don’t sign Hopkins. Renfrow is one of the best slot receivers in the league and is know for his crisp route running. With a receiver core that already features Brown and Smith on the outside, adding Renfrow to the slot would take the unit to another level.

If the Eagles were to trade for Renfrow, it is hard to imagine the deal costing too much. It would seem more likely the Eagles add Renfrow if he is released. The Eagles still have over $10 million in cap space, so they would have more than enough money to sign the former Pro Bowler.

All of this is just speculation, but given how much talk there has been around Hopkins and the Eagles, adding Renfrow if they miss out on Hopkins seems like another possible outcome. The need for a wide receiver three in this offense isn’t a big need at all. The Eagles already have a loaded offense as it stands, but adding Renfrow would signal the Eagles are going all in to get back to the Super Bowl and win it this time.

Maybe the Eagles look to use their cap space to address other areas of need like a linebacker, safety, or adding another pass rusher because you can never rule that out with Howie Roseman. But if the Eagles do look to upgrade at the receiver position, Renfrow could be a really intriguing option.
