3rd Quarter

Gardner MinWHO?

Anthony Richardson’s day ended on 6/17 with 78 Yards and 38 Rushing Yards.

Gardner Minshew started the 3rd Quarter 5/5 for 56 Yards and a Touchdown.

The start of the 3rd Quarter looked like a completely different Colts offense. Gardner Minshew looked calm in the pocket, nothing like Marcus Mariota or even Minshew’s 2 performances at the end of the Eagles season.

Trey Sermon’s Day Continues

If the Eagles were sold on Trey Sermon heading into 2023. It’s a wonder they went as far as to sign Rashaad Penny and Boston Scott AND trade for D’Andre Swift.

I’m not complaining about the moves because I like the 3 additions to the backfield. But unless there’s a trade before the 53-man deadline, Trey Sermon might not see regular-season playing time once again. Or if any of the Eagles ‘starting’ RBs get injured.

Jonathan Taylor Trade Talks

The Eagles have done their due diligence on the Jonathan Taylor situation. With the Colts in town, it’s reasonable that Howie Roseman would have that conversation.

That being said, the trade seems unlikely. There are 5 Running Backs already fighting for their share of the ball. Sending any type of asset in a trade doesn’t make sense for the Eagles at this point in the season.

However, come the October 31st trade deadline. The Eagles will have two 2nd round picks in the 2024 draft. Surely, one will be used.

Defensive Performance

The Colts were on pace for over 400 total yards. I wouldn’t be too worried about these numbers. We’ve had the pleasure to see glimpses of Nolan Smith, Jalen Carter, and Year 2 of Jordan Davis and Nakobe Dean. Except we haven’t seen anything from Haason Reddick, Fletcher Cox, Brandon Graham, Darius Slay, or James Bradberry.

So, if there’s any concern about the Eagles defense giving up over 1,000 total yards across their 3 preseason games.

4th Quarter

Ian Book’s Final Outing

Ian Book didn’t look promising in his one game with the Saints in 2021. He finished 12/20, 135 Yards, and 2 Interceptions.

He’s looked worse in the 2 preseason games he’s appeared in for the Eagles. He only had 1 completed pass against the Ravens, and he played 3 drives.

Until today’s game, Ian Book’s future did not look promising, but that was before he started 3/3 for 23 Yards. Sure, the deep shot on 4th & 2 wasn’t the ideal play. His 2 offensive drives culminated in a final stat line of 11/15 for 80 yards. Not bad for a QB who most likely won’t see the field, and that’s even if he survives the roster cuts next week.

Final Score: Colts 27 – Eagles 13

The Eagles finished this preseason 0-2-1. While the scores weren’t impressive, the lone moments from players like D’Andre Swift, Nolan Smith, Jalen Carter, and Eli Ricks should have you counting down the days until the Eagles play against the New England Patriots on September 10th.
