The Eagles are 3-0 for the first time since… Last year!
With victories ending in the following scores:
@ Patriots 25-20
Vs Vikings 34-28
@ Buccaneers 25-11
A 4th & 11 conversion, or a Justin Jefferson goal line fumble from potentially having 1 or 2 losses already on their record. The Eagles are in a good position to start the year.
A Stroll Down The NFC East
After a Week 3 win, the Eagles now sit atop the NFC East as the only team in 1st place. A position they shared with the Commanders and Cowboys before Sunday’s games.
During Sunday, the Cowboys met a hilarious loss against the Cardinals, losing by 2 scores to a team that had the opportunity to tank for Caleb Williams. An uneventful performance from both Dallas’s offense and defense saw the Cardinals rack up 222 Rushing Yards, and Prescott’s first interception as the Cowboys went 1/5 in the Red Zone. It’s losing “easy” games on the schedule that can set a team back with huge playoff aspirations, even having to claw back 1 game in the standings could prove difficult come December.
Meanwhile for the Commanders. Their 2-0 start looked a lot like the Giants 6-1 from last season. Taking 59:10 of the game clock to put up their only 3 points against the Bills is… definitely a promising outcome for a team that struggled to beat the Broncos, who lost 70-20 to the Dolphins while the Commanders took a similarly embarrassing loss.
The Giants lost a second game. They got away from the Week 1 Cowboys blowout. They even sparked a huge comeback against the Cardinals! And then they were on another Primetime game. Daniel Jones is 1-11 in primetime games and without Saquon Barkley against the 49ers. The New York Giants once again looked like a team contending for the 1st overall pick. Not a team that was looking to build off of a 9-7-1 season from last year.
How The Eagles Got To 3-0
Finding Their Own Kelce-Swift
Why D’Andre Swift only saw 1 rushing attempt against the Patriots remains a mystery. Because in the last 2 weeks, Swift has put up 305 rushing yards. Howie Roseman’s day 3 draft trade may be one of his best moves this off-season.
Swift currently sits 2nd in Rushing Yards, 45 yards behind Christian McCaffrey – who saw 22 attempts in San Francisco’s Week 1 game.
If the Eagles continue to rely on the run, things couldn’t look any better than this.
The New Man In Town – Sean Desai
Losing out on Vic Fangio because of the whole Jonathan Gannon tampering fiasco wasn’t the best case scenario.
But after 3 weeks, Sean Desai’s defense has been the back bone to all 3 victories.
Averaging 310 total Yards per game(12th), 48.3 Rush yards per game(1st) and 261.7 Pass yards per game (25th).
With injuries becoming a concern in the DB room, continuing to watch the Eagles force punts, turnovers and score points is a good sight to see.
Moving Forward
Entering the season with the highest strength of schedule (.566%), the Eagles find themselves against all six 2022 NFC playoff teams, their Super Bowl 57 rematch and other AFC contenders like the Bills and Dolphins. With their first divisional game against Washington this Sunday, the Eagles will look to add another important win to the standings. Needing every win they can get before a run against 5 straight contenders.
Go Birds!
