Last season, after the Eagles lost their first game of the year.
It wasn’t long until GM Howie Roseman made some roster moves to address a need that was presented during that loss.
The Eagles struggled to stop the run in their Week 9 loss to the Commanders after losing Jordan Davis 2 weeks prior. Giving up 152 Rushing Yards, and only having possession for 19:36.

With 4 turnovers and some questionable flags. The Commanders were also able to capitalize on 58 and 55 yard field goals. Nothing went the Eagles way.

3 Days after the loss, the Eagles signed Ndamukong Suh and Linval Joseph to bolster a defensive line now missing 2 of it’s rotational players.

And on Sunday… Things didn’t go the Eagles way.

A 4 turnover day, missed Field Goal and wide open drops. The Eagles were lucky to not announce any follow-up players to injured reserve following the weekly trend.

With the loss behind us and a threatening offense coming to town. This week will be about how the Eagles respond to the loss and work their way to the rest of the schedule.

Reserves On The Way

Quez Watkins hit injured reserve after he already missed 2 games this season. Help was needed at the receiver position.

Lining D’Andre Swift as a receiver with an empty backfield was definitely a way to tip defenses that the Eagles weren’t going to run the ball. An issue they face with only 3 healthy receivers and refusing to get Britain Covey or Devon Allen on the field.

After a loss where the passing game was a concern (against a team missing 3 Cornerbacks!) a depth signing was needed. Queue Howie Roseman’s music…

The signing of a wide receiver was definitely a surprise, but a welcome one. If the Eagles can only trust 3 Wide Receivers (Brown, Smith and Zaccheaus) then a move needed to be made.

With the trade deadline only 12 days away. Anything could be possible but the Eagles signed a familiar face for their 2nd signing of the week.

With a mass of injuries forming in the secondary. The Eagles needed some insurance in case Blankenship, Slay, Ricks and Roby would be out for extended periods. While todays injury report suggests Blankenship and Roby might be the only ones to miss more time. Bringing in a familiar face in Scott who has played both Nickel and Safety is the depth move that might help the Eagles injury woes.

How They Respond

Following last years loss to the Commanders. The Eagles went on to win 5 straight games in what was dubbed the “difficult” stretch of their 2022 schedule. With wins against the Colts, Packers and Titans, the Eagles improved to 11-1 on the year.

With an unpleasant stretch coming in the 2023 schedule. Wins against the Dolphins, Cowboys, Chiefs and Bills might be hard to pull off. But with players beginning to return at the right time, from Dean to Carter & Slay and the eventual return of Cam Jurgens. The Eagles might be able to load up and get healthy when it matters most.

Last years only deadline move for the Eagles was a 2024 4th round for Robert Quinn.
Who’s on your list for the Eagles to acquire by October 31st?
