The Eagles have already made an off-season move that may be able to help their defense next season. They went out and signed Linebacker Julian Okwara, a free agent who previously played with the Lions.

Okwara, the 26 year old Outside Linebacker signed a one year deal worth $2.675 million. Okwara was drafted in the third round out of Notre Dame. So far in his four year career hes tallied 54 tackles (12 for loss), 16 QB hits, nine sacks, one fumble recovery, and one interception. This past season he had two sacks. He has only started four games in his career, so these numbers aren’t bad for a rotational player.

Okwara was an extremely talented player coming out of college. He ended his college career with 79 tackles (24 for loss), 15.5 sacks, and two interceptions. At the NFL combine he measured at 6’4″, 252 LBS. His arm length is 34 3/8″, and his hand size is 10 1/4″. The only part of the combine that he tested in was the bench press, which he scored 27 reps. At his pro day he ran a 4.6-second 40-yard dash.

Okwara was released from the Lions to make room for another player. He was someone who was productive on their defense given the role he played. It will be interesting to see how the Eagles will fit him into Vangio’s defense if he makes the team.

The Eagles have a strong need for Linebackers this off-season, and Howie is showing us he understands that. It will be interesting to see where the Eagles go from here.
