A Win for Philly, Regardless of the Outcome
Sunday’s PLL Lacrosse Championship Was A Showcase of Some of Philly’s Finest.
On paper — you wouldn’t think that a matchup between teams from Utah and Maryland would hold any interest for Philadelphia fans.
But this year’s PLL Cash App Lacrosse Championship Game has plenty of Philly influences in this contest aside from its location at Subaru Park in West Chester, PA.
Sunday afternoon’s contest featured the Utah Archers, attempting to make PLL history by winning their second title in a row.
The Maryland Whipsnakes, on the other hand, are going for their third crown — a first in PLL history.

The Utah Archers are nearly as Philly as a Utah team can be. Attack’s Mac O’Keefe was a star at Penn State, capturing the most D1 Lacrosse Goals in history with 213. University of Virginia’s Matt Moore graduated from Garnet Valley High School. Midfielder Ryan Ambler graduated from Abington Senior High School, where he helped the lacrosse team win three league titles and once advanced to the state tournament — before attending Princeton and was an All-Ivy League selection there. Piper Bond is a defensive midfielder from Penn, and Midfielder Grant Ament from Doylestown also attended Penn State.
Maryland is much closer to Philly and has plenty of Philly connections, including midfielder Levi Anderson, who attended St. Joseph’s and LaSalle High School, and Glenside’s Matt Rambo, who was the league MVP in 2019.
On the heels of a Mac O’Keefe hat trick, it was the Utah Archers taking the 2024 PLL Championship, 12–8. Matt Moore had two goals and two assists.
Another win for more sons of Philly.
