On December 21st — Beaver Stadium will host a home CFP Playoff Game in Happy Valley against SMU.
It’s only the first step for a team that has produced one of the finest seasons in Nittany Lion Football history.

James Franklin, Drew Allar, and the Nittany Lion Football Team aren’t interested in celebrating an 11–2 season, one of the finest in Penn State Football history — at least not yet. Entering the Big 10 Championship Game against the number one team in the country, a perfect 12–0 Oregon Ducks, they left it all on the field. Happy Valley is now playing for a national championship.
Nearly forty years ago, the combination of legendary Joe Paterno and Todd Blackledge gave Penn State Football their first national championship. Four years later, Penn State and Paterno did it again with one of the most memorable college football games against Miami in the Fiesta Bowl.
What makes the combination of Allar and Franklin so dynamic — is what they both have achieved. Franklin, who has quietly built on the work from others before him, such as Bill O’Brien, has his Nittany Lion Football Team positioned not just to play next week but also for a National Championship. His young quarterback — who had become a leader of men on the 11–2 Penn State Football Team — plays each game like an aged veteran.
But it‘s the combination of the two to college football that is so special for Happy Valley, that cannot even be shaken by a razor-thin loss to Oregon that proved that Penn State can play on any level. It’s one of the best coaches and quarterbacks in the land whose combination will play for a National Championship for the first time since 1987.
It’s more than just a good combination of Head Coach and Sophomore Quarterback.
It’s the perfect pairing at the perfect time.
