RECAP – Week 11: An Opportunity Lost for Temple Amid A Historical Matchup; Fall to Army, 14-13
Temple football lost out on a golden opportunity to take one step closer to Bowl eligibility against Army on Saturday afternoon.
With two minutes left in the contest and down 14–13 , Temple defensive players energetically pointed in the air signaling a change of possession after a fourth and one deep in Temple territory. But after a measurement , the Army was awarded a first down — effectively ending the contest. Two plays later , Army’s Cale Hellums slid down short of the goal line instead of scoring, denying the Temple offense one last chance.
Despite Army dominating the time of possession by nearly 38 minutes to just over 22 and giving up 224 yards rushing, the Owls had chances in the contest. Temple answered an early score by the Black Knights when Evan Simon connected for a game-tying touchdown with Colin Chase. Temple held a 10–7 advantage at the half. They also missed a forty-five-yard field goal in the first quarter.
Temple Football’s history of playing Army dates back to the middle of World War II in 1943, when the Black Knights prevailed in the first-ever meeting, 51–0. The Owls’ last victory against Army was in 2013 at Lincoln Financial Field.
K.C. Keeler will look to position Temple (5–5) for their first bowl eligibility since 2019 against Tulane on November 22nd and in the season finale against North Texas on November 29th.
