Penn Pulls off Last-Second Miracle to Become Ivy League Champions
Just days after Penn Men’s Basketball advanced to the Ivy League Title Game with a last-second A.J. Levine layup over Harvard, the Quakers took the Ivy League Title from #1-seeded Yale with an 88–84 win.
The incredible win for Penn took shape as Penn trailed Yale 73–69 with only 12 seconds left in regulation.
Then the ball got to Penn’s T.J. Power.
Power hit a three-pointer with just under seven seconds left in the game. Then Power took an inbounds pass the length of the court and drained another three-pointer with only one second left. Yale had a shot to win it when Trevor Mullin heaved a ball toward the hoop that bounced off the back iron.
In OT — Yale played catch-up — cutting Penn’s lead to 86–84 with only 11.2 seconds remaining. This time , however, it was Penn making all of its free throws to preserve the win.
Power finished with 44 points and 14 rebounds for the Quakers. Mullin finished with 22 for Yale.
The outcome almost assures that Yale is eliminated from contention for the NCAA Tournament while ensuring that Penn will be in.
