Storm Announce Preseason Clash with Union II
The Ocean City Nor’easters have announced an exhibition match against MLS Next Pro side Philadelphia Union II.
The match is scheduled for Friday, May 8th, and will be held at the WSFS Bank Sportsplex located adjacent to Subaru Park in Chester, PA. Kick-off is set for 1 PM.
The facility is open to the public, and fans are welcome to attend the match.
This is the Storm’s first preseason game as the club gears up for its USL2 campaign, with the season and home opener on May 22nd (tickets available here).
This marks the third-ever matchup between the two sides, with the clubs clashing in 2025 and 2021. Last year’s game was an exciting back-and-forth affair where the talents of both teams were on display.
This year, an ambitious Nor’easters side – with their eyes set on the National Final – will look to make their mark against the professional opponents of Union II. Between both squads, some of the nation’s top youth and collegiate prospects will be on display.
Familiar Faces
There are a number of connections between the Nor’easters and Union II.
It will be a reunion between Union II Head Coach Ryan Richter and Ocean City, with whom he played during his collegiate career.
Richter totaled 45 appearances, scoring 11 goals and adding 5 assists in his time with the Storm. He remains an all-time leader in both games played (10th) and goals scored (9th) for the South Jersey-based team.
On Ocean City, there are 4 players who have ties to the Union organization.
Devon Stopek, Owens Moore
There are 2 former Union II players on the roster: Devon Stopek (Rutgers University/Cherry Hill, NJ) and Owen Moore (Grand Canyon University/Pilesgrove, NJ). Stopek made his professional debut with Union II during the 2023 season, and Moore was a member of the squad in 2021.
Michael Tzimoulis, Jacques Mason
2 Storm players are Union Academy products. They include: 2x time GA Cup winner Michael Tzimoulis (Queens University of Charlotte/Sewell, NJ), and recent YSC graduate Jacques Mason (Wilmington University/Monrovia, Liberia).
Looking Ahead
Once again, fans are welcome to attend the exhibition match at the WSFS Bank Sportsplex at 1 PM on May 8th.
The Nor’easters’ annual Summer Kick-Off Party will be held on May 20th at Josie Kelly’s – the official post-game destination after all Storm home games. Meet the team, enjoy good food, and win big in the raffle contest.
